How to split a PDF
- Add your file. Choose a PDF using the area above — its page count is detected automatically.
- Choose your pages. Type ranges like
1-3, 5, 8-10to extract a subset, or select "Each page → own file" to split every page separately. - Download the result. Select "Extract to PDF" (or the per-page option) to save the new file or files.
What happens to your file
This PDF splitter runs locally in the browser. Your document is read into your device's memory, and the pages you choose are copied into new PDF files by JavaScript running in the current tab — nothing is uploaded to OpenToolkit or stored on an OpenToolkit server.
Because there is no upload, the practical limit on document size is the memory available to your browser rather than a server-side file cap. Refreshing or closing the page clears the file held by the tool.
What this PDF splitter supports
Common reasons to split a PDF
- Pull one exhibit or chapter out of a larger filing or report.
- Extract just the signed page from a scanned, multi-page agreement.
- Break a large scanned book or magazine into individual pages before OCR.
- Share only the relevant pages of a document, keeping the rest private.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Splitting happens in the current browser tab using your device's processor and memory. The document is never sent to OpenToolkit for processing.
Is there a page-count or size limit?
There's no upload limit since nothing is uploaded — available browser memory is the practical ceiling. Very large scanned PDFs may need a device with more memory.
Can I split a password-protected PDF?
Not directly. Unlock it in a PDF application first, save an unprotected copy, and split that copy instead.
Can I reorder pages instead of splitting them?
Use PDF Organizer to rotate, duplicate, delete or reorder individual pages.
What if a page appears in more than one range?
The extracted PDF follows the order you type, including a page more than once if you list it twice.
Can I recombine the pieces later?
Yes — use Merge PDF to join files back together.
